* Free Staged Reading! "I Know That You Love Me" by Broken Gopher Ink! Monday, August 9th at 7:00pm (1387 S, Santa Fe, Denver, CO)Paragon Theatre Company’s The Trench Aug. 9, 2010 . reading series presents I Know That You Love Me by Broken Gopher Ink
The Trench: Paragon’s New Play Development Series is pleased to announce the second installment of the 2010 season: a public staged reading of I Know That You Love Me by the playwriting duo known as Broken Gopher Ink.
I Know That You Love Me is fourteen scenes between men and women that examine multiple facets of the same stone via drama, comedy, song, and monologue. These snapshots are savage and hilarious, disturbing and familiar. I Know That You Love Me is a vaudeville of the sexes and a zoetrope of the heart.
Broken Gopher Ink is a team of playwrights whose quirky and vicious “comedies” have been produced in theatres throughout the US and the UK. Starting in the 1980s, Broken Gopher Ink began a series of off-Broadway shows, which later became known for their nihilistic comedy and anti-theatre sensibility. Claiming that all they wanted to be were “the Sex Pistols of playwriting,” Broken Gopher Ink followed a non-recognition ethic, which demanded focus on their work rather than on the playwrights themselves. Rumors abounded in theatre circles about their identity, but it is generally agreed that they are based in Colorado, and that there are from two to four members at any given time.
Directed by Shelly Gaza, I Know That You Love Me will be read at the Kim Robards Dance Theatre located at 1387 south Santa Fe Drive in Denver on August 9 at 7pm. Like all readings in the Trench series, admission to I Know That You Love Me is free and refreshments will be provided after a mediated talk-back with the audience.
